چکیده

Abstract The Integrated Multi-satellitE Retrievals for Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM; IMERG) is a high-resolution gridded precipitation dataset widely used around the world. This study assessed performance of half-hourly IMERG v06 Early and Final Runs over 5-yr period versus 19 high-quality surface stations in Great Lakes region North America. assessment not only looked at occurrence amount, but also studied Quality Index (QI) errors related to passive microwave (PMW) sources. Analysis bias accumulated amount statistics suggests that presents various uncertainties with respect time scale, meteorological season, PMW source, QI, land type. Results indicate 1) cold season’s (November–April) larger relative can be mitigated via backward morphing; 2) 6-h scored best warmest season (JJA) consistent overestimation frequency index − 1 (FBI-1); 3) five sources affected by different degrees; 4) terms some metrics, skills do always enhance increasing QI; 5) local lake effects lead higher correlation equitable threat score (ETS) closest lakes. this will beneficial both developers users products. Significance Statement purpose was assess product from (IMERG) version 6 performs statistical comparison amounts as function event threshold, input source among satellites. Interpretation results identifies shortcomings algorithms, particularly extreme events ice-covered surfaces. describe spatial variability data quality due complex geography area offer clear threshold flag optimal application

Understanding Dominant Factors for Precipitation over the Great Lakes Region

Statistical modeling of local precipitation involves understanding local, regional and global factors informative of precipitation variability in a region. Modern machine learning methods for feature selection can potentially be explored for identifying statistically significant features from pool of potential predictors of precipitation. In this work, we consider sparse regression, which simul...

Hydrological Assessment of Daily Satellite Precipitation Products over a Basin in Iran

In order to measure precipitation as the main variable for estimating the runoff and designing hydraulic structures, the satellite algorithm products that have the proper spatial and temporal coverage, can be used. In this study, at first, the daily streamflow simulation of Sarough-Cahy River from the Zarinehroud basin was conducted through the artificial neural network (ANN) and ground data of...

Can IMERG Precipitation Estimates Suitably Replace TMPA Products For Brazil?

Knowledge of the spatial and temporal distribution of precipitation is of key importance for planning a wide range of socio-economic activities such as agriculture, livestock grazing, energy generation, etc. The availability of accurate and consistent precipitation data is then paramount for the proper assessment of such activities. However, traditional rain gauge measurements are relatively sc...

Extreme Precipitation and Beach Closures in the Great Lakes Region: Evaluating Risk among the Elderly

As a result of climate change, extreme precipitation events are expected to increase in frequency and intensity. Runoff from these extreme events poses threats to water quality and human health. We investigated the impact of extreme precipitation and beach closings on the risk of gastrointestinal illness (GI)-related hospital admissions among individuals 65 and older in 12 Great Lakes cities fr...
